Product · AfyaMesh

The holistic digital platform for neighbourhood healthcare in Africa.

One platform, two sides, six modules – sharing one data layer, one patient identity, and one DHIS2 connection. Built standards-first for low-connectivity, mobile-money, low-cost-Android conditions.

The framing

Imagine walking into a full health facility – except the facility is software, and the neighbourhood is the network.

AfyaMesh is not an EHR with a patient portal bolted on, and it is not a telehealth app that tries to grow into a clinical system. It is a mesh – a set of provider workflow modules and a consumer app that share a single data layer, identity system, and standards stack from day one.

The architecture is deliberately patient-first. The Patient app is a first-class surface, not a sub-feature of a provider module, because the commercial moat – a patient audience providers want access to – and the public-health value – a longitudinal record and population-level data – both depend on solving patient problems directly and letting providers benefit from being on the network where those patients already are.

The modules

Six modules. One mesh.

Each organisation installs only the modules it needs. Modules route requests to one another over the shared mesh rather than duplicating each other's responsibilities.

01 Provider

Pharmacy

The pharmacist's SaaS – inventory, batch tracking, expiry alerts, supplier ordering, dispensing, mobile-money POS. Receives orders from Patient and from on-network prescribers.

02 Patient

Patient

The consumer-facing app at the centre of the mesh. Search and order medications, book consultations, view results, hold a longitudinal record. Mobile-first with web mirror.

03 Provider

Clinic

Encounter-workflow module for hospitals, clinics, and primary care providers. Captures vitals, history, examination, diagnoses, and routes orders out to other modules.

04 Patient + Provider

Telehealth

Chat, voice, and video consultations. AI-assisted triage. In-consult e-prescriptions and orders. Browser-based provider portal plus mobile clinician experience.

05 Provider

Diagnostics

Lab and imaging module for standalone diagnostic centres and clinic-affiliated labs. Routes test requests to the nearest approved facility with capacity.

06 Cross-cutting

Billing & Admin

Invoicing, receipts, and multi-rail payment processing across the mesh. Per-organisation admin console for users, permissions, subscriptions, and module configuration.

Design principles

Built for the conditions, not retrofitted to them.

01

Patient-centric by design

Every module is an access point to the same patient-centred mesh, connected by a patient unique identity.

02

Offline-first

Core workflows function fully without internet – inventory, POS, records, prescriptions, billing. Data syncs when available.

03

AI-ready

When connected: demand forecasting for pharmacies, drug-interaction alerts for providers, AI-assisted triage for patients.

04

Low-cost Android

Designed for entry-level Android devices – sub-$100 smartphones – prevalent across African markets.

05

Mobile-money native

Built around mobile money as the primary payment rail, with cards and bank transfer where the infrastructure supports them.

06

Interoperable by design

Standards-first around HL7 FHIR + ICD/LOINC/ATC. Every clinical concept carries an explicit reference to its vocabulary.
